Great Barrier
Marine Radio: VHF Channel 01
Coverage from the
Aldermans to Tutakaka and an area to nearing 100mls out the back of Great
Barrier Island.
We maintain a listening watch on
Channel 16 and Channel 71 from 7.00am to 10.00pm daily as well as monitoring
Channel 01 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Between 10.00pm and
6.00am emergency transmission only please.
We take trip
reports, help out with local knowledge such as phone numbers, where fuel,
water, dive tank and LPG fills can be obtained. Planes and ferry
timetables, taxis etc. We also liase with Police, Health, Rural Fire
and Department of Conservation on the island.
The station
rebroadcasts the Marine Weather Bulletins each day at approximately 07.35
and 17.35.
We
are a ship to shore channel, not a chit chat channel.
There are numerous boat channels available for that.
The channel
operates through solar power so please remember that a carelessly stowed
microphone, keeping the channel blocked, can cripple our system.
We are a
non-profit organisation, our only source of funding is the revenue gained
from membership subscription which is $50.00 pa. If you would like to know
more about us contact our main operator Emmy on 09 4290 281 or write to us
at; Claris RD1, Great Barrier Island 1236.
Thankyou
